Competitions!
Get involved in the lead-up to the Ōhiwa Oyster Festival and help us celebrate the start of the oyster harvest season. We’ve lined up two exciting competitions you can enter from home before the big day. With great prizes, local recognition, and your moment to shine! Ready to join in?
ŌHIWA OYSTER QUEEN COMPETITION
Create something eye-catching and original that brings the Oyster Queen to life. Think strength, elegance, and inspired by the ocean. You might play with pearl shimmer, stingray curves, seaweed flow or the feeling of wind dancing over water.
COMPETITION DETAILS
Who can enter: Anyone aged 16+ (solo or in a team of up to 4)
Cost: $25 (includes your festival ticket)
Due: Thursday 15 May, 6pm
Prizes:
$500 First Place | $250 Runner-Up | $100 People’s Choice
Your submission should include:

5 high-quality images of your outfit (front, back, side, and close-up details)

A 200-word description outlining your inspiration and process
BEST OYSTER DISH COMPETITION
Are you a home cook, chef, or seafood lover with a creative twist? This competition invites you to craft a dish using oysters as a key ingredient. Whether it’s in the flavour, the texture, the colours, or the story it tells.
COMPETITION DETAILS
Prepare your dish at home and bring it to the festival to be presented to our judging panel. Each participant will receive a dozen oysters to experiment with as part of their entry. Should any extra oysters be required for your experimentation process, we will sell them to you at cost price - contact us in this instance.

Recommended: Bring 4 small tasting plates for the judges to sample.

**How to Enter: Purchase your competition entry ticket from the 'Competitions' section at ohiwaoysters.com/tickets. Then contact us at kiaora@ohiwaoysters.com to arrange collection or shipment of your oysters.
If you've already purchased a general admission ticket and would like to enter, just email us and we’ll sort the competition upgrade for you. Finally, bring your dish to the festival to be presented to our judging panel on the day.
